SHORELINE, Wash. -- Police are asking for help in finding a woman wanted for several home burglaries and thefts in Shoreline. Neighbors helped track her down a few months ago. Police are hoping they can do it again.
You can still see the marks on the window where burglars broke into William Bunn and Ryan Walle’s rented home in March.
“I arrived home and found the place with the back and front door open,” says Bunn.
“I was unsettled. I was at work and I came home to Billy telling us we’d been robbed. I felt really violated, kind of worried that someone had been there just hours before,” adds Walle.
They soon found out they weren’t the only victims. Other homes nearby had been burglarized, and neighbors were sharing information about the possible suspects online.
“Going on social media sites like Nextdoor, seeing that other houses had been hit by the same group of people, it was great to find some community and support there,” says Bunn.
Walle agrees, “Everyone was pretty vigilant at staying on top of the situation, posting pictures and video, and talking with the cops.”
Shoreline police were able to track a white car used in several of the burglaries, and arrested three people, including Holly Burkhart.
Burkhart had a history of theft and burglary charges, but a judge granted her bail. Now she’s wanted again, after failing to show up to court.
Bunn doesn’t like hearing that she’s on the run.
“It’s disappointing and unsettling.”
Walle can only hope that neighbors will be watchful, and can help police again.
“That’s the way they were caught before, is people keeping their eyes open and caring and being vigilant,” he says. “I want her to get caught and pay for her actions, I think people should be responsible for their actions.”
Police say Burkhart has associates in Shoreline, north Seattle, Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace. If you have seen her, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
