Authorities ordered people in the area of 110th Street and 25th Avenue South to evacuate immediately and stay out of the area until police clear it.
What they're saying:
At around 9:07 a.m., officers responded to reports of a suspicious person, possibly a burglary suspect, near the Pick and Pull at the corner of 112th Street South and Steel Street South.
While officers were en route, the suspect scaled a razor-wire fence onto Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) property and ran north through a field toward a business.
As officers arrived, the suspect entered the business. At around 9:21 a.m., LPD officers were advised that shots were fired and people inside fled. As of 11:30 a.m., the suspect was the only person known to be inside the building.
Police negotiators are on scene working to bring a peaceful resolution to the situation. The LPD said its public information officer is not providing details since he is assisting in the negotiation process.
