EVERETT, Wash. - An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting involving officers in Everett on Friday morning.

According to Mandy Kruger, public information officer with the Snohomish County SMART Team, an Everett police officer responded to reports of gunfire in the 8700 block of 7th Avenue Southeast at around 2:30 a.m. This area is near Emerson Elementary School.
With assistance from Snohomish County deputies and a drone unit, an adult male was seen firing a handgun into the air.
Authorities say after negotiating and attempts to de-escalate the situation, the suspect advanced toward officers. Multiple tasters were deployed, but when the suspect continued to approach, officers then discharged their firearms.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities say no officers were injured and there is currently no threat to the public.
Law enforcement has been communicating with the Everett School District to manage delays and closures.
Emerson Elementary School closed in Everett, WA
It was announced that Emerson Elementary School will be closed on Friday, March 20, due to the active police investigation.
Police have closed 7th Avenue Southeast from 84th Street Southeast to 90th Street Southeast. The public has been asked to avoid the area.
