Seahawks extend GM's contract through 2016

The Seattle Seahawks have given its general manager John Schneider a contract extension for three more years.

The relationship between Schneider and Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll has worked out well for the team through its first three years.

So it’s no shocker the team wants to keep it going.

ESPN.com reports that the Seahawks have extended Schneider’s contract through the 2016 season.

The team reportedly reached agreement on an extension with Schneider more than a year ago, but didn’t formally announce it at the time.

Since coming to Seattle, Schneider has worked to draft quarterback Russell Wilson, tackle Russell Okung, safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman, while working out trades for running back Marshawn Lynch and defensive end Chris Clemons.

The team is also counting on good things happening from this year’s trade for wide receiver Percy Harvin, a move that hopefully will help extend the season beyond the Divisional Round of the playoffs this year.

Pete Carroll’s contract runs through 2014.
