SEATTLE -- With Kam Chancellor entering the final season of the four-year contract he received after being a fifth-round draft choice in 2010, the Seahawks on Monday signed their Pro Bowl-caliber strong safety to an extension.
The 6-foot-3, 232-pound Chancellor has been a starter the past two seasons and become a big part of – literally – what is arguably the NFL’s best secondary, one that also includes All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas, All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman and Pro Bowl-caliber corner Brandon Browner.
Chancellor, who just turned 25, had 91 tackles for the league’s No. 4-ranked defense to finish third on the team last season, when he was a second alternate to the Pro Bowl. Chancellor was second on the team in tackles (94) and also had career-highs in interceptions (four) and passes defensed (13) in 2011, when he played in the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement after being a first alternate in balloting for the NFL’s all-star game.
Earlier today, Chancellor tweeted a response to signing his extension: “It’s a Great Day today.”
