Shelter pets from LA wildfire zone arrive in Seattle

Another group of dogs escaping the wildfires in California have arrived in Seattle

They're in need of a new forever home, because shelters in Los Angeles have been packed with pets who were separated from their owners.

FOX 13’s Shirah Matsuzawa was there as the plane filled with pups touched down.

Seattle Humane Society receives shelter pets from Los Angeles County wildfire zone

The animals landed at Boeing Field Sunday afternoon and now, they’re off to the Seattle Humane Society.

By the numbers:

In a matter of 25 minutes, around 35 dogs and 12 cats landed in Seattle. Then, one by one, they were taken off the plane and loaded into cars. Dogs and cats of all sizes.

So far, more than 250 dogs have arrived under the care of Paws for Life as they continue their partnership with Seattle Humane Society.

We caught up with the humane society's Director of Animal Care Ali Waszmer, and Shelter Care Supervisor Jacob Beardley, after the flight arrived in town.

What they're saying:

"It feels good right? You get your adrenaline going, seeing these little guys getting their tails beating and knowing it’s been a long day for them. They’re probably really tired. It was raining in Los Angeles when they left, which is really different for these guys."

"Our mentality is it doesn’t matter if we’re serving the Seattle area, or just all around, we take in animals from all over the state and the country. And so whenever there are any natural disasters that happen, we really try our best to be involved as much as possible and make a difference wherever we can," the humane society representative continued.

The Seattle Humane Society says this was a team effort with Paws for Life and Wings of Rescue. They ask if anyone is able to foster, adopt, or donate, please do!
