Rock-throwing vandal damages Tacoma, WA donut shop

Another teen is accused of committing a crime, this time was property damage in Tacoma. Owners of Helen’s Donuts & Ice Cream telling FOX 13 the incident happened Saturday around 5:15 p.m.

"It was around closing time," said owner Steven Pothan. "They didn’t come in to buy anything and we always make sure to greet our customers."

Having been in the donut business for 14 years, Pothan said the group of three teens didn’t sit right.

"They said ‘hello,’ laughed and then left the store. There was little to no interaction," he said.

That’s why he was confused and shocked when one of the male teens picked up a rock and throw it at one of the storefronts windows.

Helen’s Donuts & Ice Cream in Tacoma was vandalized on Saturday, Dec. 14.

"You just saw him pick it up and throw it," said Pothan.

The glass shatters, leaving a large hole near the stores' neon window signage.

"I’ve been coming here faithfully for 7 years or so," said customer B.J. McKay. "It is just senseless vandalism. Everybody loves these guys. I can’t think of a reason why someone would do this."

The cost to repair the window is estimated at $2,000.

A police report was filed with Tacoma police. In addition, video of the vandalism, including images of all three teens, was shared with investigators.
