What caused the dozen separate crashes on I-405 Tuesday morning?
RENTON, Wash. - On Tuesday, officials reported about a dozen crashes along I-405 between Renton and Bellevue, and troopers said slippery road conditions were the biggest issues for drivers.
A fiery crash on I-405 in Renton led to traffic issues throughout the entire day.
What they're saying:
FOX 13 Seattle reached out to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to see what they are doing to keep roads safe.
"We’ve had crews out round the clock treating and plowing roads, even before this winter event had started. We had crews on I-405 working on the mainline, the ramps, and the interchanges prior to the incident that happened this morning," said Aisha Dayal, with WSDOT.
Dayal said while crews are working to protect the roads from snow and ice, people still need to do either part.
"We need the public to do their part as well, and that includes driving for those conditions, slowing down at icy spots, leaving extra time and extra space," said Dayal.
She said drivers also need to be cautious around plow crews working on the road.
Troopers tell FOX 13 Seattle weather conditions played into Tuesday's fiery crash. They also said a car cutoff the semi-truck driver.
