Elderly woman dies in Lynnwood house fire Sunday

One woman is dead and a home is destroyed following a fire in Lynnwood on Sunday.

Just after noon on Dec. 15, firefighters responded to a report of smoke and flames at a two-story home in the 17900 block of 33rd Place West.

When crews arrived, South County Fire says the home was almost entirely engulfed with several areas collapsed. This made entry to the home difficult.

After 20 minutes, the first responders were able to get in the home. There they found a woman in her 80s who had died. A man in his 90s was evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

While others are believed to have lived in the home, the elderly pair were believed to be the only ones home at the time of the blaze.

Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire on Sunday night.

"Everyone is encouraged to check your home’s smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms can save lives by giving you more time to escape a fire. Replaceable batteries in smoke alarms should be changed once each year. Replace all smoke alarms after 10 years," said a representative for the firefighters.
