Seattle Mariners move up start time of September 9 game to accommodate Seahawks opener

The Seattle Mariners announced they have moved the start time of their game on September 9 to accommodate the home opener for the Seattle Seahawks and the 2026 NFL season.
The Mariners have moved their game against the Texas Rangers from a scheduled 6:40 p.m. start to a 1:10 p.m. first pitch. That allows the Seahawks to have their opening kickoff at 5:20 p.m.
As the Super Bowl champions, the Seahawks get the NFL's traditional spot to open the 2026 season against a yet-to-be-announced opponent. Though that opening game is typically on Thursday night, a matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia will be played on Thursday night in the United States (Friday in Australia) instead.
The Sounders have already announced that they have moved their September 9 match against Sporting Kansas City to Thursday, October 1 at 6:30 p.m. to vacate a previously scheduled game at Lumen Field that night.
The Seahawks nearly had to move the start time of their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season due to a potential conflict with a Mariners' playoff game against the Detroit Tigers. That game could have been scheduled at noon, necessitating the Seahawks to move their 1 p.m. kickoff. However, the Mariners game was scheduled for 5 p.m. and the Seahawks game was able to stay in its normal time slot.
