The 4th Congressional District in Washington state is a land of snow-capped volcanic peaks and lush irrigated orchards that produce most of the nation’s apples. It’s also home to one of the few Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump and then won his next election.

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, the Republican representing the 3rd Congressional District, has conceded to Joe Kent, a Republican challenger backed by former president Donald Trump. 

Republican Joe Kent, who challenged incumbent Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler over her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump, has taken a narrow lead in the race for the second spot in Washington state’s top two primary.

Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse, who voted to impeach Donald Trump, advanced Friday to the general election following days of vote counts in Washington state’s primary, but fellow Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler saw her advantage against an opponent endorsed by Trump rapidly shrink to within recount territory with thousands of votes left to count.

Republican businessman Matt Larkin will likely face off against Democratic incumbent Kim Schrier on the November ballot for a seat representing the 8th Congressional District. Larkin will be on the ballot after Republican candidates Reagan Dunn and Jesse Jensen conceded from the race. 

Washington voters will narrow the field of candidates in dozens of races in the state’s primary Tuesday.

The top two candidates for a U.S. Senate seat, 10 congressional races and the secretary of state’s office will be decided by Washington voters in Tuesday’s primary.

Two Washington GOP House candidates, both of whom are seeking to represent two different Congressional districts in the state, will face off in their primary elections next week against incumbent Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump last year, insisting that those impeachment votes will move voters to the polls.

There are 18 candidates vying for U.S. Senator in the Aug. 2 Primary Election and the Top 2 will move on to the General Election in November. It’s a race that has big political implications nationwide as Republicans believe five-time incumbent Democratic Senator Patty Murray may be vulnerable.

A statewide poll found most voters trust the mail-in ballot system that Washington has offered for several years. Secretary of State Steve Hobbs hopes continued efforts promoting accurate election information will reach those voters who are doubtful.
