Wind direction is forecast to shift, blowing smoke from wildfires in the region to Puget Sound. Air quality across western Washington is at risk for the weekend, which could make situations especially unhealthy for those with medical conditions.

Dry, hot conditions made it easy for a brush fire to take off in Lakewood on Wednesday, forcing evacuations of several neighborhoods. Crews were able to get the upper hand, saving homes and lives in the process. 

A total campfire ban will be put in place throughout the Olympic National Park and the Olympic National Forest starting Friday, Aug. 18. This also goes for coastal areas of ONP. 

Crews were battling a three-alarm brush fire that flared up in Lakewood Wednesday afternoon. 

The number of lives lost in the Maui wildfires continues to rise. People across Washington are stepping up to help the city in its long road to recovery.

As a heatwave envelops Washington, some concerning statistics have emerged: nearly 90% of all wildfires in Washington state have been caused by people.

With these searing weather conditions, firefighters are standing by for anything that sparks, and they are not having to wait very long for the next call.

"Maui is not the place to have your vacation right now. DO NOT TRAVEL TO MAUI," the "Aquaman" actor implored his followers on his Instagram.

Local members of the Empact International team are deploying to Maui Saturday morning to help with the wildfire disaster.
