Brutal 'Knockout Game' reported in Spokane
SPOKANE -- A man offering a friendly greeting to a group of young adults may have been the first victim of the brutal "Knockout Game" in Washington state.
The victim was walking out of a store Saturday evening in the 9000 block of E. Sprague Street in Spokane when he passed a group of three 17-21 year olds, Spokane Valley Sheriff's reported. The man said "what's up fellas," to the group before turning his head. One of the group's members, for no apparent reason, punched the man in the face as he turned.
The man fell to the ground and was kicked and prodded by the group before a Good Samaritan came out of a nearby store to break up the incident. Police were called to the scene but were not able to locate any suspects, who had fled in light colored Honda Civics.
According to sheriff's deputies, the man had no relation to the suspects. Robbery did not appear to be the motive.
Police believe the incident may be related to the "knockout game," where young teens video tape themselves randomly assaulting men and women.
Crime Stopppers of Inland Northwest is offering a cash reward for the information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Witnesses are encouraged to call 1-800-222-TIPS.
