GIG HARBOR, Wash. - A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook Kitsap County on Tuesday.
What we know:
The epicenter of the quake is located near Glenwood, which is about 10 miles northwest of Gig Harbor.

The earthquake hit just before 2:06 p.m. with a depth of about 17.3 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). It was initially reported as a 4.3 magnitude quake.
Thousands of people responded online saying they felt the earthquake Tuesday afternoon. Several people in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, and Bremerton felt weak shaking, though many others did not feel the shaking at all.
Seismologists say an aftershock is possible, predicting a 38% chance that another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 or greater could happen in the area within a week.
What we don't know:
There were no immediate reports of any damages or injuries caused by the earthquake.
Local perspective:
The last time a 4.0 earthquake shook western Washington was back in 2023 on the Olympic Peninsula. However, three earthquakes with magnitudes near 5.0 recently struck off the coast of Vancouver Island late Sunday and early Monday.
The 2001 Nisqually earthquake remains Washington's most damaging earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.8 and lasted about 30 to 40 seconds.
