Link light rail weekend service disruptions between Capitol Hill and SODO
SEATTLE - Sound Transit will temporarily suspend Link light rail service between Capitol Hill and SODO stations this weekend as they prepare for the full opening of the 2 Line.
The service cuts will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, through the end of service Sunday, Jan. 19, to conduct essential testing in preparation for full 2 Line operations.
Normal service is expected to resume at the start of operations on Monday, Jan. 20.
What's next:
During the suspension, crews will perform the first integrated tests of the combined 1 and 2 Line safety communications equipment.
Sound Transit says these tests include simulating over 100 different emergency scenarios, and are a crucial step toward the full opening of the 2 Line. To facilitate the tests, power to the test area has to be suspended.
To accommodate passengers, Sound Transit will provide Link Shuttle buses running approximately every 10-15 minutes, stopping at all stations between Capitol Hill and SODO.
Passengers traveling southbound from Capitol Hill will need to transfer to the shuttle and reconnect at SODO if continuing south. Similarly, northbound passengers through SODO will transfer at SODO and reconnect at Capitol Hill.
Local perspective:
Link trains will operate every 15 minutes from Lynnwood City Center to Capitol Hill and from Angle Lake to SODO. Passengers are advised to plan ahead, allowing extra time for transfers or considering alternative transit options.
Fans leaving the Kraken game on Saturday evening can take Route 8 from Seattle Center to Capitol Hill, while those traveling between Downtown Seattle and SODO can use routes 101, 150, or 594.
Link shuttles may experience significant delays on Saturday, Jan. 18, between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. due to a planned march starting in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Additional information about the bus bridge is available on Sound Transit's website.
