Local principal concerned about anonymous social networking site
KENMORE – A local principal has a warning to parents about a popular website that she believes is putting lives in danger. “Ask.fm” is a social networking site where users can remain anonymous. There’s no tracking or parental controls and explicit comments are not deleted.
The principal of Kenmore Junior High School sent out a letter, warning parents about suicides linked to problems on that site.
“There have been nine suicides that have been directly related to Ask.fm,” Kimberlee Armstrong said. “We had to investigate a couple of things and even had to suspect students because of it.”
One student says she’s been bullied on the site, and that it can stress out users to the point they don’t want to do school work.
Armstrong says she’s is also seeing a growing pattern of students at her school being bullied online and wants parents to be aware of it.
