Man who shot dog to be treated for PTSD
SEATTLE -- A Tacoma man who shot his dog as punishment when it wouldn't obey him won't face any jail time, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Instead, William Walston, 38, will be treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
On Wednesday, Walston pleaded guilty to first-degree animal cruelty, according to the paper. Pierce County prosecutors said he needs to be under supervision and in some sort of treatment program.
In September, Walston shot his five-year-old boxer, Zeus, in the right hip. Walston was drunk at the time and told police he was tired of the dog running away and not listening to him.
The dog survived.
The newspaper said Walston is a 10-year Army veteran with no combat experience, but was hurt in a parachute jump.
