Police: Oregon man involved in shooting of police officer, dog captured at Canadian border
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a Portland man who fled after he cut off his ankle monitoring bracelet has been caught by Canadian Border Patrol agents.
The Oregonian reports that 26-year-old Jemaell Diamond Riley fled early Wednesday. He was captured Thursday.
He's accused of being involved in the shooting of a police officer and police dog last year.
Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson says Riley was one of three men arrested after the April 16, 2014, shooting of Officer Jeff Dorn and his dog Mick after a robbery at a uniform store. Police said Riley was not the shooter but was armed at the time of the arrest.
A man convicted of shooting Dorn and Mick was sentenced in December to 30 years in prison. Dorn was wounded; his K-9 partner was killed.
Riley's trial is scheduled for mid-April.
