Redmond father makes emotional plea for public's help in locating missing autistic son
REDMOND, Wash. -- The father of a 32-year-old autistic man who has been missing for more than a week now pleaded with the public Thursday to help find his son.
"Someone has seen him, you know?" Jerome Stroschein said at a news conference held by the Redmond Police Department. "We have to find that person."
Stroschein broke down in speaking of his son, Jamaal Stroschein, who has been missing since June 3, when he walked away from his home near 18200 NE 31st Street in Redmond.
Jamaal's family said he has the decision-making ability and maturity of that of an 11- to 13-year-old.
Jamaal is a mixed race black/white man, 5-foot-10, about 150 pounds with a thin build, brown eyes, brown hair. He may have grown facial stubble or a beard in the past week.
In addition to autism, Jamaal has been diagnosed with type-2 diabetes and anxiety.
He has no known friends or other family in the area, police said, adding that he has run away in the past for three- to four-day periods.
Police said he is a past student at Bellevue College and has been seen on campus selling small rubber-band figures he makes for cash. He may also panhandle for cash, police said.
If seen in public, Jamaal may appear quiet, shy, or exhibit a blank upward stare (such as in the second photo from the left, police said.
Anyone who sees Jamaal is urged to call 911.
