Seattle man in critical condition after being stabbed in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND -- A 46-year-old Seattle man was in critical condition on a hospital ventilator Monday after being stabbed numerous times in the back while in a condo at the Worldmark Discovery Bay Resort in Port Townsend early Friday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect in the case, Donovan Smart, 21, of Port Angeles, was arrested for first-degree assault, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Monday.

The sheriff’s office said the victim and two of his Seattle friends, a 23-year-old man and 27-year-old man, were staying at the Worldmark condos and had gone to a Port Angeles bar on Friday. There, the three men met Smart and departed the bar when it closed at 2 a.m., bringing Smart back to the condo with them, the office said.

While two of the men were in another room, they heard the victim pounding on their door and “when they opened it they saw the victim screaming for help and stating that he had been stabbed,” the news release said. “Smart was present near the victim. The two men described the victim as bleeding profusely from his multiple wounds.”

As of Monday, the victim is in critical condition on a ventilator in the intensive care unit of Harrison Medical Center.

The case is currently under investigation.
