Special Election: Voters approve most levies, bond measures for schools
SEATTLE -- Most of the levies and bond measures for school districts in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties were approved Tuesday night.
In King, Pierce and Snohomish counties alone, there were more than 70 measures on the ballot in Tuesday's special election.
Most seek an increase in property taxes to provide money to local school districts, in addition to that which is now provided by new, state-mandated property tax increases for education. The proposed increases on the ballot differs from district to district.
Supporters of the measures say they are needed because there are still gaps in funding for local schools. Critics say the state-mandated property tax increases are enough.
Levy and bond measures were failing Tuesday night for the Kent School District, the Tahoma School District and the Snoqualmie Valley School District in King County and in the Sedro-Woolley School District in Skagit County.
