Suspect arrested in Everett teen stabbing
EVERETT, Wash. - Everett police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing a teen as he was walking to school earlier this month.
What we know:
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Andrew Freeman, was arrested on Wednesday at around 4 p.m.
Police said a community member called 911, notifying them of Freeman's whereabouts.
Freeman is accused of stabbing a 13-year-old boy on Jan. 16 near Broadway and 25th Street. The teen was taken to the hospital after arriving at North Middle School with stab wounds.
Freeman was arrested that same morning on drug charges, but was released from jail before investigators identified him as a suspect in the stabbing.
Freeman will now be booked into Snohomish County Jail for first-degree assault.
"I want to thank our police department for their dedication to getting justice for the young student that was attacked earlier this month, and I also want to commend our community and media partners for helping us amplify information about the suspect," said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin. "The community plays such an important role in public safety; I encourage our residents to stay informed, be observant and ensure they know the proper channels for reporting both emergency and non-emergency situations."
"We cannot thank the public enough for their assistance in this investigation," said Everett Police Chief John DeRousse. "From the beginning, we relied on the public’s assistance in identifying this person. Thanks to a community member’s tip, we were able to locate our suspect."
Freeman also has convictions in 2022 and 2023 for second-degree robbery and third-degree assault. He tried to rob a 69-year-old woman in Federal Way, and has four misdemeanor convictions for graffiti in Everett.
