Trial delayed again for man accused of shooting, killing pregnant Seattle woman

The trial of Cordell Goosby, the 30-year-old man accused of killing a pregnant Seattle woman at random last summer, has been delayed again as his lawyers mount an insanity defense on his behalf.

It was a scene of inexplicable tragedy that day in June 2023 at the corner of 4th and Lenora.

Eina Kwon was eight months pregnant, riding to work with her husband, when police say Goosby ran up to the couple’s car and opened fire.

Eina died of multiple gunshot wounds. An emergency delivery was not able to save the life of her child, a baby girl. Her husband, also wounded in the attack, recovered.

Police on the scene said Goosby appeared to be having a mental health episode during the attack, but last December, the King County Court found that he was competent to stand trial.

But this October, the defense essentially contested that evaluation, by doing their own mental evaluation as part of an NGRI motion: "not guilty by reason of insanity."

That now requires the prosecution to complete a new review of Goosby’s status, including additional mental exams. It is a process that court officials say can take several more months.

Goosby has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder. His trial was supposed to begin at the end of March. If convicted, Goosby could be sentenced to 57 years in prison.
