Woman tries kidnapping child at Puyallup hospital

A woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to kidnap a three-year-old girl at Puyallup's Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday.

According to Puyallup Police, officers were called to the hospital Monday afternoon around 1:17 p.m. to reports of an attempted kidnapping. Witnesses told police a three-year-old was sitting in the emergency room with her mother, when a 45-year-old woman suddenly picked her up and walked away with her.

Police say the girl's mother, a friend, hospital security and staff all intervened, but the suspect refused to release the child.

Several people had to pull the child away forcefully, and she suffered minor injuries from the suspect's grasp.

Good Samaritan Hospital security detained the woman, and Puyallup Police arrested her and booked her into Pierce County Jail for second-degree kidnapping.

"The safety of our employees and patients is our highest priority. We commend the members of our hospital staff who helped bring this situation to a quick and safe resolution," read a statement from MultiCare after the incident. "MultiCare is working closely with local police as they continue their investigation."

This is a developing story.
