The Seattle Seahawks are hiring former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, a source confirmed to FOX 13 Seattle.
The agreement was first reported by MIke Garafolo of the NFL Network.
Kubiak, 37, was one of six candidates publicly tied to the job, which became open with the team's decision to fire Ryan Grubb after just one season in the role at the end of the season.
Detroit Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley, Chicago Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown, Minnesota Vikings assistant Grant Udinski, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich were also reported as candidates for the job in Seattle.
Dig deeper:
Kubiak is the son of former Denver Broncos and Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. Klint spent this season as the offensive coordinator of the Saints, though his job became uncertain with New Orleans firing head coach Dennis Allen during the season.
Kubiak has been a coach in the NFL since the 2013 season except for one year at the University of Kansas in 2015. He was an offensive quality control coach with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013-14, and joined his dad with the Broncos in 2016. Though his dad retired after the 2016 season, Kubiak remained with the team for two more seasons.
Kubiak returned to the Vikings as a quarterbacks coach for two seasons and then spent one year as offensive coordinator in 2021. Kubiak then returned to Denver for one season as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022, and then one year as passing game coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 before joining the Saints.
Kubiak, Fraley and Udinski were reported to have second interviews with the Seahawks. Fraley was given a promotion by the Lions to running game coordinator to help keep him in Detroit.
The Saints finished the season 21st in total offense, 23rd in passing offense, and 14th in rushing offense this season. Their 19.9 points per game was tied for 24th in the league. However, the Saints also were without starting quarterback Derek Carr for seven games this season due to injury. All five wins the Saints had last year came with Carr in the lineup.
As coordinator of the Vikings in 2021, Minnesota averaged 25.0 points per game (14th). They were 12th in total offense, 11th in passing offense, and 17th in rushing offense.
