People were rescued from raging rivers and roads submerged by high waters and authorities were investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in Oregon creeks this week as an atmospheric river brought heavy rain, flooding and unseasonably warm temperatures to the Pacific Northwest.

Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue made a daring nighttime water rescue after receiving a distress call from a man in a small boat on the Skykomish River near Monroe on Tuesday. 

Conditions in Cape Horn are getting tough for residents as the Skagit River continues to rise and is expected to crest at 36 feet.

An atmospheric river brought extra rain to Mason County on Tuesday, causing flooding along the Skokomish River.

Cresting at 21.34 feet, the Stillaguamish River in Arlington hit an all-time high Tuesday afternoon, as rains flood the North Sound.

Amtrak train service has stopped between Seattle and Portland due to a landslide across the tracks.

While heavy rains and flooding batter the North Sound, Western Washington's main thoroughfare is facing weather issues down south, too.

With the National Weather Service issuing a flood watch for most of western Washington until Wednesday, an atmospheric river could bring potential flooding to multiple rivers this week and ‘major flooding’ to the Snohomish River.

Fall marks the beginning of flood season for many communities in the region. Just in time for the rain to fall, two communities in Snohomish County are getting some much-needed help towards mitigating flooding in the future.

In December, waters rose over the riverbank in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood—putting multiple blocks underwater, destroying homes and leaving families with nowhere to go.

With heavy rain in the forecast, the level of concern is increasing for people who live and work in flood-prone areas. Snohomish County is looking for developers to take on flood risk reduction projects, all funded through federal dollars, to help protect impacted neighborhoods.

Recovering from December’s extreme winter weather comes with a hefty bill. The price keeps going up for people in parts of Pierce County, as their clean-up reveals new damage from the recent storms.
