Strong storm to bring rain, wind, mountain snow on Friday, Saturday

Widespread rain and breezy wind will impact western Washington on Friday as a potent weather system moves into the region.

Expect increasing rain as the day goes on, with gusty wind developing after sunset. High temperatures will be near average for this time of year.

Light showers will continue to fall around the Puget Sound area Friday morning. Rain will become more widespread and increase in intensity heading into the afternoon.

The widespread rain will transition to on-and-off showers late Friday through Saturday. Isolated thunderstorms are possible Saturday, especially along the Washington Coast.

Breezy winds will start picking up Friday afternoon, with the strongest gusts blowing in the overnight and early morning hours on Saturday.

The strongest winds will be in the usual locations: San Juan Islands, Admiralty Inlet, Whidbey Island, western Whatcom and Skagit counties, as well as the Washington Coast. Gusts will be between 35 and 45 mph, with isolated gusts over 50 mph.

This storm will not cause widespread power outages, but there could be some scattered areas that go dark overnight.

Snow levels are at 4,000 feet Friday morning, but will continue to drop to around 2,500 feet by Sunday. Four to 8 inches of fresh powder is expected over White and Stevens passes through Sunday. Two to 5 inches of snow is expected over Snoqualmie Pass.

A Coastal Flooding Advisory is in effect for the Washington Coast. 

The biggest impacts will be around the late morning high tides on Friday and Saturday. Two to three feet of inundation could impact roads and businesses near the coastline. Large waves are also expected during this time as the weekend storm rolls through.

After we get through Saturday, the weather will calm on Sunday, leaving us mainly dry with a few early showers. If you’re heading to the Sunday Night Football Seahawks game against the Green Bay Packers, it looks cool, dry and cloudy.

Monday through Wednesday will be showery at times. Another dry pattern sets up on Thursday and Friday of next week.
