Seattle weather: Strong Cascade winds and overnight rain, easing Tuesday

After some sunbreaks to start the day along with highs in the 50s, rain and strong winds return to western Washington tonight. More rain and wind along with mountain snow is in the forecast for the rest of the week.

Winds will continue to pick up this evening, especially along the Cascade foothills. The strongest will be around 10 p.m. through the overnight hours.

A Wind Advisory is in effect through early Tuesday morning for the Cascade Foothills with gusts between 50-55 mph possible. Watch for downed tree limbs and possible power outages.

Tuesday will be a mix of sun, clouds, and a few spotty showers. Winds will ease on Tuesday compared to overnight, but still breezy at times. Also, a mix of rain and snow in the mountain passes for holiday travelers.

Highs will be a few degrees cooler compared to Monday, but highs will remain above average on Tuesday.

An atmospheric river set up will bring more moisture to the PNW midweek, which will also bring heavy mountain snow to the Cascades. 

A Winter Storm Watch for the mountains above 3500' Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning for 18-24" of snow. Make sure to keep an eye on conditions if you are planning on traveling.
