Rain expected in Seattle, Winter Storm Warning & Weather Advisory issued for parts of Cascades
SEATTLE - Friday did not disappoint! A beautiful end to the day for sure! Highs around the metro area landed in the upper 40s to near 50.
We'll trade in our quiet Friday weather for a wet and windy weekend along with heavy mountain snow as a strong system moves inland.
The system will move in from the northwest spreading showers and breezy to gusty winds as it tracks across the region. By 3 p.m., snow will become heavy at times over the Cascades. A "Winter Storm Warning" and a "Winter Weather Advisory" go into effect Saturday at 10 a.m. lasting through 4 p.m. Sunday for up to nearly two feet of some for some areas.
Winds will also be kicking up through the mountains with possible gusts of 40 mph! This will make for poor visibility at times. Know the roads before you go!
Here's a look at some of our peak wind gusts Saturday evening.
Something else we're keeping an eye on is early Monday morning. A few showers linger along with temperatures in the low to mid-30s we may start the day with snowflakes before turning to rain and drying out for some lowland areas. We're watching the I-5 corridor from Everett to Tacoma for that wintry mix. Stay tuned!
Rain totals Saturday through Monday night vary around the region. Seattle could pull down just over half an inch with Hoquiam at nearly an inch!
Once we get through the weekend we dry out, but temperatures take a deep dive well below average. A very cold air-mass will drop in from the north leaving us with lows in the low to upper 20s with highs only climbing to near 40!
Keep the sunglasses and warm winter jackets handy as you will need them! Enjoy!
Have a great weekend! ~Erin Mayovsky, FOX 13 Forecaster
