Elderly driver hits 7-year-old in crosswalk

SEATTLE -- Police are investigating an elderly man who allegedly drove his car into a 7-year-old girl and an adult female crossing a crosswalk on the girl's way to school.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers received a report of a man who struck a child around 9 a.m. Friday in the intersection of North 130th Street and Greenwood Avenue North. A 7-year-old accompanied by a woman were crossing a crosswalk when the man allegedly struck both pedestrians at a low speed and kept driving for about 30 feet before stopping his car.

The child was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The adult was not injured.

Officers located the man and his car in a parking lot just south of the collision scene. He was taken to an area hospital and evaluated for any signs of drugs or alcohol impairment.

Just prior to the collision, officers received reports of a vehicle driven recklessly. Officers believe the driver of that vehicle was the same one that hit the girl.

Police are still investigating the accident.
