Good Samaritan saves mom after road rage gun incident in Hoquiam, WA

A convicted felon is behind bars in Grays Harbor County for threatening a mom with a gun in a road rage incident after she pulled over for an ambulance, police said.

The dangerous and terrifying situation could have ended with a terrible outcome, but several community members jumped in and disarmed the suspect.

Video from the scene shows the aftermath as at least three people deescalate the situation.

Hoquiam gun road rage incident

"Although, the citizen who was walking down the road took very, very commendable action, some call him a hero, we as a police department, we don’t necessarily recommend people getting directly involved," said Chief Joe Strong with the Hoquiam Police Department.

Strong said the victim, a mom, had two kids in the car: an eight-year-old and a six-year-old.

He says she pulled back onto the road after getting out of the way of an ambulance. Strong said a 33-year-old man from Tacoma took offense to that maneuver, blocked traffic, then got out of his car and threatened the four people in the victim’s vehicle with a gun.

"This is the time of year when we’re supposed to be happy, joyous. It’s the holiday season, right? Unfortunately, there’s a lot of people, particularly the motoring public, who are very frustrated this time of year," said Strong.

One day after the Hoquiam incident, investigators said someone attacked a couple in another road rage incident. In that situation, a couple dodged gunfire as they drove home from Sea-Tac airport.
