Oh baby! Seattle parents pay more for kids than the national average

SEATTLE – Having a baby in Seattle isn’t cheap, but it’s better than other parts of the country. Seattle is the 13th most expensive city in the country to have a baby. That’s according to real estate company, Redfin, which ranked 40 cities.

In the United States, the average cost for a baby’s first year is about $26,000. It takes into account health and childcare costs, baby stuff, utilities and housing.

Seattle parents are paying roughly $27,400. San Jose, California is the most expensive, with parents paying more than $41,000. Santa Cruz came in second at $38,000.

Parents in Portland pay less than the national average, at about $25,800. Bremerton also made the list. Of the 40 cities, it was 26th, with parents paying roughly $22,700 during their child’s first year of life.
