Operation Orange Fingers underway at Hempfest
SEATTLE -- Seattle Police officers handed out 1,000 bags of Doritos within minutes of Hempfest opening on Saturday.
The bags of Doritos are part of what is being jokingly called Operation Orange Fingers.
The bags have stickers attached with basic information about the state's new legalization law and direct attendee's to the police department's website FAQ page "Marijwhatnow? for more information.
The stickers remind citizens that possessing up to an ounce of pot is allowed, but selling and growing marijuana is illegal.
The Seattle Police Department has been warning people who are getting high in public that they can be ticketed, but so far officers have only been issuing verbal warnings.
The project was funded entirely by the privately run Seattle Police Foundation.
Washington voters passed Initiative 502 last November.
