2 dead in shooting at North Seattle park

Two people are dead, and the suspect is on the loose after a shooting in Seattle's Lake City neighborhood.

Seattle police are investigating a shooting that killed two men at a park in the Lake City neighborhood.

What we know:

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. at Virgil Flaim Park, located at 2700 Northeast 123rd Street.

Police said two men suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting. They were located near an encampment in the park.

One victim, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene, and the second victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The incident is now being investigated as a double homicide.

Seattle police are actively searching for a suspect. Police say they have also recovered a weapon.

Neighbors caught some of the aftermath of the shooting on camera, including scenes of people hiding behind trees and others running from the scene following the fatal shooting.

Neighbor Charles Hall says he heard upwards of two dozen shots.

"Heard what sounded like gunshots, so I went to the door and saw people running from the park, so that tended to confirm it was definitely gunshots and called 911," said Hall. "It appeared like we heard, like somebody emptied a clip, and then we heard another pause and then another bunch of bullets."

Hall says he saw someone leave the park following the shooting. It's unclear whether they were involved.

"They appeared to go away from the park heading south, and we let the police know that," said Hall.

Hall hopes things change as he doesn't like the level of violence in the city.

"Prayers for the city, you know. Seattle is a great place, but it’s certainly changed over the years. I’d like to see us take our city back," said Hall.

Officers are working to determine what led up to the deadly double shooting. SPD is asking people to check their cameras in the area for anyone leaving around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
