Stunned Renton community raising money for daughters of slain mother of three

RENTON, Wash.  -- For about two hours Tuesday, a four-member CSI team searched for additional evidence inside murder victim Ingrid Lyne’s home, even taking pictures of items inside her trash can.

Although the accused killer is behind bars, it’s clear the investigation is far from over.

“You just stop trying to understand, because it’s psychotic,” Renton resident Melissa Korda said.

Korda’s children go to the same school as Lyne’s  three daughters, who are ages 12, 10, and 7.

“Actually apologized to my kids that the world is not as kind as when I was growing up,” Korda said.

Korda didn’t know Lyne well but many of her close friends did.

“So devastated by it, the way people deal with grief, they try to help,” Korda said.

Korda, along with 20 other Renton moms, helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for Lyne’s family already.

“It was $400 and now it’s almost $30,000,” Korda said Tuesday afternoon. At 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, the fund was over $62,000.

The Go Fund Me page says all donations will go "directly to the three beautiful Lyne girls."

Others in the community are leaving flowers and candles at Lyne’s doorstep, leaning on each other for comfort.

Friends say they knew something was wrong when no one could reach Lyne after her date Friday night with John Charlton, a man she met online and had been dating for about a month.

Then, on Monday, Seattle Police said three packaged body parts found in a Seattle homeowner's recycling bin were identified as being the remains of Lyne.

“There are terrible people in his world that have no regard for life,” Korda said.

Korda added that her Renton community is now forever changed because of the way Lyne lost her life.

“It’s numbing, it’s numbing,” Korda said.
