Tacoma family dodges bullets from drive-by shooting

TACOMA -- A Tacoma mother is scared for her children to sleep in their own home tonight after dozens of bullets ripped through their walls in a drive-by shooting Monday night.

"One split second -- just imagine somebody you really love getting shot and dying and having to bury them, that's all i could think about," said mother Jessie Killian-Howard.

Jessie said she used her body to shield her 7-year-old son from dozens of bullets that went flying through the family's home.

"Only thing I could do was just worry if he got hit cause he was screaming so loud that it seemed like he would have been injured," she said.

She grabbed her little boy and ran to save her young son and daughter in the next room. Jessie said the bullets pierced through the front door, the TV, and even the kids' nightstand.

Once the barrage of bullets stopped, she called 9-1-1, and she and her husband said they saw a red Mazda with four people inside.

Jessie said the car took off before Tacoma police arrived. Now, she's afraid for her family and her neighbors, that whoever did this might come back.
