After windstorm, focus turns to heavy rain starting Wednesday night

After two days of gusty wind and rain, it is much calmer across Western Washington today. The focus now turns to Thursday as an atmospheric river of moisture takes aim at Washington.

Wrapping up the "bomb cyclone"

We're almost out of the woods as we wrap up the latest “bomb cyclone.” The winds were very evident, and it knocked down trees and cut off power to thousands over the last couple of days. The wind speeds continue at this hour, but they will significantly weaken through the night. A high wind warning will be our biggest threat tonight. This warning expires at midnight, but it'll continue to be breezy at times. Luckily, we won't see damaging wind speeds with our new system that hits us tomorrow.

The Weather Alert Day remains in effect as high winds and seas continue to be a threat. The system is weakening as it approaches British Columbia at this hour but will continue to pack a punch. The gusty winds, widespread rain, thunderstorms, and high surf will remain in our forecast tonight.
