Gray, wet and blustery weather for Christmas week in Seattle
SEATTLE - We’re forecasting cloudy, damp and gusty weather for much of this upcoming week in western Washington.
Temperatures this afternoon in Seattle will reach the upper 40s to low 50s. (FOX 13 Seattle)
Quite early this morning, moderately strong winds swept through the Cascade gap communities (e.g. North Bend and Enumclaw). After 7 a.m., winds gradually subsided.
Western Washington weather: Coastal wind alerts
We’ve also been watching winds along the Central and North Coast. That’s where a Wind Advisory continues until 2 p.m. With gusts potentially reaching 45-50 mph, tree damage and power outages are a possibility.
Speaking of the coast, there’s a High Surf Advisory posted for the South Washington Coast (including the Long Beach peninsula) until 10 p.m. Monday. Dangerous large, breaking waves up to 25 to 30 feet in the surf zone could easily sweep people off of beaches and jetties. Please keep a healthy distance between you and water until these conditions change.

What to expect with winds this week
It'll be breezy today with gusts for the Puget Sound lowlands reaching roughly 20-35 mph. Sunday will be blustery for many communities, but Seattle will likely be shielding from the winds tomorrow. I’m not expecting gusts on Sunday to be problematic.
There may be on-and-off winds at times on Monday, Christmas, Thursday and Friday. While a major windstorm doesn’t look particularly likely this week as of this writing, there could be minor to moderate impacts from winds at times. There’s still uncertainty about the timing and strength of winds this week. Stick with us for the latest! We’ll let you know if the forecast evolves and impacts are expected.

Seattle rain outlook for Christmas week
In terms of the rain, we’re predicting a daily chance of rain. Unfortunately with the frequency of weather systems coming through, river flooding could be a concern by the end of the week. The threat for landslides could also spike around and after Christmas. The heaviest rain in Western Washington looks to arrive on Christmas and thereafter.
Each and every day, there's a chance for rain in Seattle going into the holidays. (FOX 13 Seattle)
You can plan on wet and cloudy weather for the Seahawks game on Sunday. (FOX 13 Seattle)
In the short-term, we have a Flood Watch posted from Sunday morning through late Sunday night for Mason County where the Skokomish River could flood.
Mountain snow in western Washington
We expect rain at the main mountain passes today, but beginning Sunday and lasting through the week, snow could fall on a daily basis at Stevens and White Passes. Snoqualmie Pass could get snow on Christmas Day. We’ll be closely monitoring for updates.
Snowy weather is expected for Stevens and White Passes for much of the upcoming week in Washington. (FOX 13 Seattle)
