Teen arrested after 2-year-old hurt in Tacoma, WA shooting

A 19-year-old has been charged with multiple felonies in connection to a shooting that injured a 2-year-old child in Tacoma.

Two suspects, Keegan Bellotti and another man, are accused in a shooting on Tuesday, March 31 at an apartment complex along 96th Street South and South Hosmer Street.

The backstory:

Bellotti allegedly pulled up to a housewarming party at the complex with the intention of shooting a man who he had issues with. Witnesses stated Bellotti and an accomplice approached the party wearing ski masks and holding guns.

Investigators said a single gunshot rang out as the mother of the 2-year-old victim was leaving the apartment, and the boy was struck in the chest.

After being hospitalized, doctors advised the 2-year-old had a broken rib and an injury to one of his lungs, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

A man, possibly Bellotti's intended target, was sitting next to the front door of the apartment at the time of the shooting, court documents state. The 2-year-old victim was nearby.

After interviewing witnesses at the scene, Tacoma police were able to track down Bellotti's location using the "Life360" app, and took him into custody at South Union and Center Street.

Bellotti was being driven by his girlfriend at the time of his arrest. Inside the car, officers said they located two handguns that were reported stolen out of Spokane. Bellotti is a convicted felon and is prohibited from having any firearms.

On Thursday, Bellotti was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a stolen firearm, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He is currently being held on $200,000 bail.

What's next:

Bellotti's accomplice, the second suspect in the shooting, was also arrested but has not yet been charged. He is facing charges of rendering criminal assistance and criminal conspiracy.

The investigation remains ongoing.
