Ad madness: JC Penney, Mt. Dew create chatter, controversy with new campaigns
New Yorker's call the hub of Manhattan's advertising business "Mad Avenue," but it's not because they foresaw the controversy surrounding a number of recent ads. In the past few months, there's been the hub bub over VW's Super Bowl ad that caused cries of racism over its actors use of Jamiacan Patois in delivering their lines.
Now, there are two new ads grabbing the spotlight: J.C. Penney's very public mea culpa over its misguided placement of a former Apple exec into its CEO position and Pepsi's Mountain Dew ad, which has been pulled after cries of racism and promoting violence against women.
Take a look for yourself and decide if these ads are effective, annoying -- or just plain "mad."
