Car hits fire hydrant in Kent, floods 6 apartments
KENT, Wash. - Puget Sound Fire crews were at a Kent apartment complex Friday night after someone hit a fire hydrant, causing flooding in the area.
"It was absolutely wild," said Vardan Parbahkar. "Who expects someone is going to hit a fire hydrant out of nowhere and just leave!"
Video from the scene shows water gushing through the parking lot of Appian Way Apartments, located near South 260th Street and 26th Place South.
Another video provided by a tenant showed the driver hitting the fire hydrant and taking off.
At least six apartments were flooded as a result of the hit fire hydrant, Puget Sound Fire said.
An estimated 22 people were displaced. The Red Cross was been called out and assist with temporary housing options.
"Right now it’s just a lot a lot of headaches," said Varun Parbahkar. "It's a lot of unnecessary work that we have to do because of what that person did."
Varun and his brother, Vardan have been at the apartment complex since Friday night helping their aunt salavage items from her flooded apartment.
"Everything is just wet," said Varun. "Management came to inspect the property damage. They provided fans to help with the water damage."
Tenants tell FOX 13 they were told it could take a few months before damaged units are fully repaired.
It's unclear if the driver who hit the fire hydrant will face any consequences.
