CIX returns after a year with “THUNDER FEVER,” ushering in new, bold era
Since their debut in 2019, CIX has been a K-pop group who have developed their own style and sound unique to them, building their fanbase of millions online.
Now, in 2025, they are making their first comeback in a year with a whole new style, bringing in a new era for the group.
"This is our comeback after a year, and while preparing for our comeback for the past several months, we put a lot of thought and effort into it with close detail. I was excited and nervous to show what we prepared to our fans, FIX, so we really worked hard," says HYUNSUK.
The group released their latest album, "THUNDER FEVER," on January 23, their first album as a four-member group following the exit of member BAEJINYOUNG.
The title track, "THUNDER" features new sounds and instrumentation the group hadn’t used before, but they knew it would work for this new era.
"When we first heard this song, we thought it sounded like our style. But when we looked at the songs we had released so far, it was very different from our previous songs in terms of style, so it seemed like a new powerful song that we could show and represent ourselves after reorganizing," explains BX, the group’s leader.
Still, while the style is different than they were used to, the album still has the CIX touch they became known for.
"When I first heard "THUNDER," the song was a little distant from the genre I usually enjoy listening to, so I had an uncertain, ‘Huh?' reaction at first. However, after the choreography came out and I kept listening to it and recording it, the song grew on me and I became confident in our song, so I just want to show our performance to FIX around the world as soon as possible," says YONGHEE.
With over 17 million views since release, the group has shown to fans their ability to keep growing as artists in the nearly six years since debut.
"Through the past six years, I think we have gained a lot of experience, including performing on stage, recordings, and music video filmings, so I definitely feel like we have grown in all areas. I'm confident that you will see how much we have grown in our performance for this album compared to a year ago," says HYUNSUK.
As their first album with four members, the group had a lot to adjust to, but with their experience together, they were able to make this comeback a success.
Throughout the years, CIX has touched on subjects with their music that are deeper than just fun K-pop dance songs, with releases like their popular song, "NUMB," that touches on mental health, something that brought them a lot of new fans, and something they always think about.
"It's always amazing and touching to see people from all over the world singing along and having fun together with our music on our world tours. I think that shows how meaningful and important it is for us to introduce and share more music with our overseas fans," BX says.
Although "THUNDER FEVER" is full of upbeat tracks to show off the vocals, rap, and dance abilities of the group, they also added the track, "My Everlasting Sun," a track that signifies the group’s new era.
"The song itself is very touching, and the lyrics deliver the mindset and emotions of the four of us starting a new era of CIX. I remember recording the song with that in mind. I think it carries the narrative and story of us four very well," says SEUNGHUN.
As CIX starts 2025 and begins this new era of their career after six years since debut, their dreams and goals continue to grow and their love for their fans continues to be their driving force to continue producing the music they’ve become known for to fans across the world.
"As this is a new start for the four of us as CIX, I hope there will be many jump-ups and achievements, whether that be impressive performances or an award, which we will work hard for. We are beyond grateful to our Korean and international FIX for believing in us and waiting for us despite the recent changes. We promise to deliver performances that will show our gratitude and make your wait worthwhile, so please look forward to it," concludes SEUNGHUN.
