Seattle Sounders midfielder Marco Pappa arrested for DUI, speeding

SEATTLE -- Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence and speeding, the team announced Monday.

Pappa will undergo an assessment by Major League Soccer's Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) Program doctors, pursuant to the SABH policy, the team added.

The Sounders midfielder is not eligible to participate in any competition until that assessment is complete and he is cleared for participation by the SABH Program doctors and Major League Soccer completes its investigation.

"We are gathering information on this matter and have been in contact with the league office, the MLS Players Union, local law enforcement and Marco directly," said Sounders FC General Manager and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. "We will continue to work in cooperation with all involved parties and will have no further comment until more information is available."

No details were provided as to where the arrest was made or under what circumstances. The team release said simply that he was arrested on Sunday morning, July 19.
