Seattle to see first 5 pm sunset of 2025 this weekend
SEATTLE - It's been a long stretch of hibernation, but Seattle will finally see a long-awaited sunset after 5:00 p.m. this weekend.
The last time we saw a sunset after 5 p.m. was Nov. 1, 2024 — but that's a little bit of a cheat since that was before we set our clocks back for Daylight Saving Time.
When will Seattle see a sunset after 5 p.m.?
Local perspective:
According to TimeAndDate.com, Seattle will see its first 5 p.m. sunset on Saturday.
That makes the first post-5 o'clock sunset to occur on Sunday, Jan. 26, when the sun will go down at 5:01 p.m. We will only get more daylight every day after that, with 6 p.m. sunsets coming on March 5.
With Daylight Saving Time starting again on March 9, the sunset will suddenly jump to after 7 p.m.
What was the earliest sunset in Seattle?
The earliest sunset we saw in the Emerald City was actually not on the winter solstice on Dec. 21, but was the stretch between Dec. 7 and Dec. 13, when the sun was regularly setting at 4:17 p.m.
