Student arrested after bringing gun to school in Mount Vernon, WA
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. - A middle school student was taken into custody after bringing a gun to a school in Mount Vernon on Monday.
What we know:
According to the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD), staff at LaVenture Middle School contacted the school resource officer (SRO) after students reported seeing a classmate in possession of what resembled a gun.
School staff contacted the student and safely recovered the weapon. The SRO confirmed that the gun was real and took the student into custody.
Authorities said no threats were made during the incident.
What's next:
The student was booked into Skagit County Juvenile Detention on charges of possessing a dangerous weapon on school grounds, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
