The day Seattle football fans have been dreaming about for years, is finally here.

The Seattle Seahawks will host the San Francisco 49ers Saturday in a prime-time NFC divisional round playoff game. It marks the first home playoff game for the Seahawks since 2020 (a 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams), and the first with fans in the stadium since 2016 (a 26-6 win over the Detroit Lions).

Quarterback Sam Darnold is officially active despite an oblique injury suffered in practice on Thursday. Both Darnold and head coach Mike Macdonald were optimistic Darnold will be able to play against the 49ers.

Keep reading for the latest scores, updates and highlights as the Seahawks take on the 49ers in a NFC divisional round playoff game, and get one step closer to the Super Bowl.

Eddy Piñeiro 40-yard FG gets the 49ers on the board - 6:10 p.m.

Nothing is coming easy for the 49ers.

San Francisco needed 10 plays to gain just 43 yards before the Seattle defense forced them to kick a 40-yard field goal from Eddy Piñeiro to get them on the scoreboard.

Christian McCaffrey has just 13 yards on nine carries as a runner, and the Seahawks are pressuring Brock Purdy on nearly every drop back. DeMarcus Lawrence has two quarterback hits already in the first 20 minutes of the game.

The field goal cut the Seahawks lead to 17-3 in the second quarter.

Ernest Jones IV forces fumble, JSN TD makes it 17-0 - 6:00 p.m.

The Seahawks are rolling.

Ernest Jones IV stripped 49ers tight end Jake Tonges as safety Julian Love recovered to give the ball back to the Seattle offense.

After Sam Darnold was dropped for a 10-yard sack by Malik Mustapha on first down, he bounced back with a 21-yard strike to Cooper Kupp for a first down to put the drive back on track. A pass interference call against Marques Sigle on a pass from Darnold to Rashid Shaheed put Seattle inside the 49ers' 10-yard line.

Darnold then rolled to his left and found Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the back left corner of the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown as Seattle's first quarter onslaught continued.

The score gave the Seahawks a 17-0 lead.

Seahawks stop 49ers on 4th down, add to lead - 5:45 p.m.

The Seahawks have scored both times they've touched the football to take an early 10-0 lead over the 49ers less than ten minutes into the ball game.

Jason Myers converted a 31-yard field goal on Seattle's opening offensive possession to extend their lead to two scores. The offense didn't even get the chance to touch the ball on the opening kickoff as Rashid Shaheed's 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

After Shaheed's score gave Seattle a 7-0 lead, the defense stopped the 49ers on their opening possession.

San Francisco made one third down conversion on the drive on a completion from Brock Purdy to Jake Tonges, but a pair of stops on third- and fourth-and-1 led to a turnover on downs to give the ball to Seattle's offense for the first time.

Zach Charbonnet and Ken Walker III combined for five carries for 26 yards on the possession with Sam Darnold completing 3-of-4 passes for 21 yards on his first throws of the game before the drive stalled.

Rashid Shaheed returns opening kickoff for TD - 5:25 p.m.

The Seahawks only needed one play to grab the lead.

Rashid Shaheed returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to give Seattle a quick 7-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game.

The return was well blocked and Shaheed made one defender and then kicker Eddy Piñeiro miss to get into the clear for the longest kickoff return touchdown in franchise history.

Piñeiro attempted a soccer-style slide tackle trying to take Shaheed down that drew a tripping call from the officials. Before the call was made, it did bring into question whether the touchdown would stand, but the penalty on San Francisco allowed the Seahawks to grab the upper hand early.

It's the third postseason kickoff return for a touchdown in Seahawks' history. Percy Harvin had an 86-yard touchdown in Seattle's 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, and Charlie Rogers had an 85-yard touchdown in a 20-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins in the 1999 playoffs.

Kickoff time bumped back due to AFC game - 5:00 p.m.

The kickoff time for 49ers-Seahawks has been bumped back to 5:20 p.m. due to the AFC divisional round game between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos going to overtime.

Sam Darnold officially ACTIVE for the Seahawks - 3:35 p.m.

Despite feeling something amiss in his left oblique during practice on Thursday, quarterback Sam Darnold is active for Saturday night's playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Darnold did not come out onto the field for early warmups. Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe handled the early work for Seattle while Darnold remained absent. It could be a choice to limit the total number of throws Darnold attempts to make today.

Tackle Josh Jones was ruled out on Thursday due to a knee injury. Amari Kight will serve as the backup swing tackle to Charles Cross, who returns to the starting lineup after a three-game absence due to a hamstring injury.

Five rookies make up the rest of the inactives for Seattle. Milroe is inactive, but will serve as the emergency third quarterback. The Seahawks could have elected to make Milroe active for this game with the uncertainty around Darnold, but he'll only be available to play if Darnold and Lock become unavailable.

Offensive linemen Bryce Cabeldue and Mason Richman, linebacker Jared Ivey, and defensive end Rylie Mills round out the inactives for Seattle.

Running back Velus Jones Jr. was elevated from the practice squad to add a third running back to the group behind Ken Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.

Voice of the Seahawks Steve Raible breaks down Seattle's NFL playoff game vs 49ers

Steve Raible, the long-time voice of the Seahawks, joined Good Day Seattle to discuss Seattle's NFL divisional matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

The winner of the NFC divisional round playoff game will advance to the NFC championship game

This will be the Seahawks' second consecutive game against the 49ers, having beaten them in Week 18 to clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC, and also earning a first-round bye.

The winner of Saturday's divisional game will advance to the NFC championship on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 3:30 p.m. PST.

The Chicago Bears will host the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round on the other side of the bracket.

If the Seahawks advance to host the NFC championship, it would be the second postseason meeting between the Seahawks and Rams, but the first to have fans in attendance. The Rams beat Seattle 30-20 in the Wild Card round of the 2020 playoffs after the Seahawks won the NFC West to serve as the host. No fans were able to attend due to ongoing restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rams are the only team to beat the Seahawks in the playoffs at Lumen Field. The St. Louis Rams beat Seattle by a 27-20 margin in the Wild Card round of the 2004 playoffs as well.

The Seahawks and Bears have met in the playoffs twice before. Both games have been in Chicago with the Bears emerging victorious, beating Seattle 27-24 in overtime in the 2006 playoffs, and by a 35-24 margin in the 2010 playoffs.
