SEATTLE (AP) — The observation deck on Seattle's Space Needle would be refurbished to improve views if plans to renovate the city icon are approved.The Seattle Times reports that Space Needle chief executive Ron Sevart on Friday presented a proposal for five long-term projects to the city's Landmarks Preservation Board.Sevart said the multiyear effort, if approved, would be the largest reinvestment in the Space Needle since it was built in 1962.The proposal includes replacing the outside observation deck enclosure, which is now a metal security cage, with a glass barrier that officials say will improve the view.Both the restaurant level and observation deck would also get new floor-to-ceiling, energy efficient windows.The proposal also includes better wheelchair access and an upgraded elevator system.
