Ferguson beat Republican challenger Dave Reichert, a former Washington congressman and King County Sheriff, by more than 433,000 votes in the 2024 election, declaring victory on Election Day.

Who is Bob Ferguson?

Ferguson has served as Washington's Attorney General since 2013, and before that served as the U.S. Attorney for western Washington. He has vowed to pass on his open cases to incoming AG Nick Brown. During his gubernatorial campaign, Ferguson said public safety was among his top priorities, promising $100 million in the budget for salaries and bonuses to hire officers.

He has also sworn to fight Project 2025, a suite of conservative policies published by the Heritage Foundation, which is expected to be adopted by the second Trump administration.

"We are preparing in case President Trump attacks Washingtonians’ core freedoms," said Ferguson in November. "We will keep Washington moving forward no matter what happens at the federal level."
