Seattle weather: Calm, but cold week ahead

Local leaders have activated severe weather shelters due to the frigid temperatures.Temperatures will plunge once again around Western Washington. We’re continuing an extended period of dry, cold weather. For those who aren't housed or don’t have access to adequate heating, the temperatures in the days ahead will be dangerous. Here are resources on cold weather shelters: Please make sure to dress in warm layers in the days ahead. Sunday and Monday will be the coldest mornings of the next several days. Early Sunday, temperatures will plunge to the mid to upper 20s for most. We can’t rule out hyper-localized freezing fog the next couple of mornings, but this would be the exception rather than the rule. Where this happens, icy spots would be a concern. Highs this week will range below normal. The average high for today is 48. We’ll only land in the low 40s for much of this week. Tomorrow will feature spectacular sunshine all day long. Partly sunny skies will follow on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will be primarily dry with chilly sunshine. Isolated showers and minor mountain snow are a possibility on Friday!Take good care, Meteorologist Abby Acone
