Morning clouds, afternoon sunshine, and mountain thunderstorms return Wednesday in Western Washington.

A security camera captured the moment a lightning bolt struck a tree in Northern Wisconsin on September 9, sending bark and debris flying through the air.

A 2.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Waterville in Central Washington on Tuesday evening. 

Highs on Wednesday will be a few degrees warmer and around seasonal average. Clouds to sunshine with mountain thunderstorms possible.

A low pressure system south of Washington will move inland, producing mountain and Central Washington thunderstorms Tuesday.

As temperatures cool down this week, wildfire smoke fades away, and sunsets creep up, we take a look at significant fall signifiers coming to the region soon.

Highs Tuesday will be a few degrees cooler with morning clouds to afternoon sunshine. A stray shower is also possible for the Puget Sound wrapping around and sliding down from the Cascades.

Light rain showers are possible Tuesday in the Puget Sound lowlands, but overall, this work week looks mainly dry.

Cloudy and cool weather will continue into the work and school week.  Afternoon highs will remain in the low 70s for much of the region. 

Today will be a cooler than average day with mostly cloudy skies, a few showers and a chance of lightning over the mountains this afternoon and evening.

A disturbance will create some instability this evening and early Sunday.  This will lead to a chance of storms with lightning and gusty winds.  A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 3am as the storms will lead to high fire danger overnight.
